yeah thats the setup exactly Peter. I wonder if it would be prudent to set that to ascend the tree and then set a normal cambium saver and drt system for positioning when dismantling. that might add a bit too much time, but it would seem to rule out the disadvantages....

 

no hang on, that then removes the advantage of easy ground rescue. hmm I guess there still isnt a definitive answer

The answer is, the right tool for the job. The more techniques you have at your disposal, the more flexibility you have when dealing with out of the ordinary situations. I wouldnt expect to use this very often, but when I do, it is a time and effort saver.

Very wise words. I wish more people would think like that.

 

Though I do use this technique more often than not on trim jobs.
