using Aspen

Using Aspen. on friday i had some milling to do in Solihull for a regular client. this time it was cutting 20mm slices in each end of 24 gluelam beams. as the weather was pants they set it all up on tressels inside a big open ended barn. i had a bit of normal 2 stroke to get rid of then changed to Aspen. what a difference it made, with the 2 stroke my eyes were burning with the fumes but when i changed to aspen everything changed for the better. there was a slight loss of power but as i was using an 880 with a 36" bar it wasnt really that bad. i have got to do some more milling next week in a woodland that is FSC so its Aspen and Bio oil. ok its more exspensive than normal 2 stroke mix but i will be using it from now on. no more feeling bunged up and headaches for me:thumbup:

Great review Bob! im glad you liked it.

as for the power loss, did you try altering the mixture at all from that which you had been running with the normal fuel?

sometimes it can take a bit of tweaking to find the sweet spot for running Aspen. (usually needs to be slightly richer on the low speed to make up for the lack of solvents in the fuel which otherwise aid in initial pick up)

I know wot you mean about burning eye's as milled some larch on sat and was suffering but ran out of normal fuel before i got done wot i needed so used 2 fills of Aspen i had just picked up 2 try next week for hedgecutting, made a big differance to how i felt and you could almost say it smelt nice...

Didnt notice any power drop off but was only using a 046 in the vertical mill with 16" bar to cut the slabs into beems. Think it might hurt the wallet a bit much to run the 088 on it all the time but am willing to giv it a go in the smaller stuff for now.
