I was told by a hippy chick that you're meant to ask the tree for permission to cut it! Goes for holly too. (folklore) Hope you asked permission................ Nice job anyway:thumbup:.

 

i think you will find that it is Elder that you ask permission from her to cut. the Elder in old folk law is the hag, that is why you never ever burn elder on an open fire in a house, better still dont burn it, saves a lot of trouble, all you have to do is tell the hag why you are cutting it down(respectfully) and then do it quickly and cleanly. even if you dont believe in superstition why tempt it.

you have just stopped any doubt about a job u have to do in a few weeks time. havnt ever trimmed a yew tree. these pictures have been a great help. great work too!

nicely finished yew there, burned some elder tonight, havnt seen any hags yet, didnt talk to tree before i cut it down lastyear either, blackcats are just cats, i dont walk under ladders purely because its likely something will fall on your head, superstition is for puffs and office chat..
