Nice one Simon. Look forward to some more pics.

 

I would love to get a go on a bat detector round the farm, as we have 7 mineshafts in the fields, and all the barns etc, and i regularly see them.

 

The guy said you can pick up a reasonable one for about £200, obviously they range through to the all singing and dancing costing £1000's with print outs, MP3 attachments etc!

 

Do you have anyone locally that could come accross one evening with one and have a play?

We have a bat box III which is about £160 hetrodyne set up and good for basic detection purposes but not ideal for really detailed breakdown of some of the other species, its the standard beginners bat detector and a great talking point with people, many of the cheaper ones dont actually have the range to make them much use unless your right underneath where the bats are coming out of a roost

 

our new set up is a bat box duet at about £250 but has both time expansion and hetrodyne so you can listen to the speaker when your out and then you can record (we have a alesis palmtrack MP3 recorder £100) it and play it back on the computer using some anaylsis softwear
