To anyone who's cuts i've criticised.

After mentioning in ad's thread the other day that I would find a pic of one of my 'less than perfect' felling cuts, I found this.

 

Please feel free to point, laugh and generally tear my poor technique to pieces.

 

Sorry there is no close up, please pay particular attention to the stump end:blushing:

Haha i think we have all done bad cuts or cuts that haven't gone according to plan in our careers!

We logged up the stem and ground out the stump so removing all evidence of such a shoddy cut. The tree didn't have much of a lean on it so just used normal felling cuts. May have forgotten we had it roped to the van, under tension:blushing:

lucky it was pop and didnt barbers chair like most would. It was a good place to make the boo boo, but i bet you learnt a lot about how woood can work for you if future jobs.

 

ps is there even a gob out the front or did you just get stuck in from the back ha ha:sneaky2:

It would have been a prime candidate for barber chair wouldn't it. There was a gob, a very nice one, shame it was wasted with such a rubbish back cut.

Ah least you managed to fix it mate, remember on my 2nd Assessment for my 31 had an old fella who was training with us make a real botch of his Hung up tree, his idea of '' feathering '' on the hinge after his boring cut take nearly 50% of the tree from the side - he only decided to tell me after he shouted for me to give him a hand and walked right through the line of fire at the side ! Wasn't too happy to say the least

You must be able to tell from the picture that I didn't have much of an idea what I was doing. To be honest, I cant even remember why I cut it so high. It was one of the first trees I ever felled. I did get better, honest:blushing:

I always fell mine at a ‘comfortable height’, think it comes from being old and decrepit.
