large oak reduction with coro's

Started this reduction yesterday......should have started in the morning as it is a BIG oak (photo's dont do it justice) but had a few hours to spare in the park yesterday afternoon so thought I may as well make a start.

 

Down for a 25-30% reduction due to the very large split between twin leaders. I could fit my arm into the top of split which continued for approx 3.5 mtrs down the main stem. There is alot of weight up in the crown with a big sail area.

 

1/3rd of the canopy mixed into canopy of veteran sweetchestnut and rest of crown above surrounding trees. This is going to take a wee while to avoid too much destruction of neighbouring trees. Unable to lower much due to the canopy chaos so dismantling and picking holes to drop to ground. Some Natural fracture pruning to neighbouring trees unavoidable but lots of hanger retrieval as a consequence.

 

Baking hot up there yesterday but pleased with the start I made.

You should get Bill to talk Simon into getting you guys back up these trees to record epicormic and extension growth in the next couple or three years.

there does not appear to be either a) the budget or b) the interest or both to do much recording of responses to the work we carry out. I for one am definately interested and have recently mentioned to Gillian. We shall see but from what I gather Royal Parks budgets are very tight at the mo with Mr Boris the mayor possibly taking over the management of Royal Parks?

 

Due to the nature of our work and the special trees within the park I'd have thought that after studies of tree works would be important.

 

Maybe you could drop the subject in the future extolling the importance of such records......more clout than lil ol me.
