daldinia concentrica / carbon balls

Unless the Id is not accurate.

 

Any chance of some photos BTS ?

 

Daldinia does affect Beech, though oviously better know for it's more common Ash association.

 

Until we see any shots, then (with respect to your experience) we may be talking about Kretschmaria, or Xylaria or old Hypoxlons

 

personally feel that positive Id is wise before judgement is made on strength of any structural part of a tree.

I thought BTS was asking about a Beech?:confused1:

 

I did realise that but obviously my ash comment didnt come across the way I meant it too.

 

All I meant was that in Ash it is very nasty and would expect it to be the same with beech, although I have never seen it on beech tbh.

it was 100% daldinia concentrica climbed and dismantled yesterday tree was in poor condition but all went ok and actually structurally felt safe, did one next to it with serve decay problems lower down but healthy canopy and glad was anchored into beech next to it, tree felt very unsafe and a couple of wobbly knee moments glad when job done
