Hi All,

after several years of procrastination I've managed to get a website together. I'd very much welcome any comments and/or suggestions. The site is at Welcome to FairleyArb.com .

I've also recently bitten the bullet and bought a Picus, so I'm looking to get it out there working if anyone has any borderline trees which might benefit from a more detailed examination. I'm based in Bangor in North Wales, but happy happy to travel for interesting work.

Cheers, Steve

Sorry to anyone not familiar with web design, that will make no sense to you.

The text to the right of the image ought to be on the left imo or at least tried on the left if you haven't already; we read top to bottom, left to right and the current layout feels a little less natural than it should do to me.

Also Arboriculture and landscape planning should be "Arboricultural & landscape planning".

There are capitalisation issues on your "services" page... In addition to that "10 years' experience" shouldn't have the apostrophe.

I stopped reading after that. The images smack too much of generic/faceless corporate istockphoto stuff and there are no staff pictures or introductions to them.

Hope that helps.

EDIT:> I felt bad so I went through the site again, there is white text on grey on your resources page and that's a bad design judgement, the previous clients ought to have been clickable links to find out who they are as well, rather than a shoehorned in image!

Hi

Thanks for the comments on the site. Having had a look at the site, I can see what you mean about the white on grey text and the the client's links- I reckon I'll change those.

With regards the pictures, the original draft of the site, which is still live at Fairley Arb Tree Consultancy, features my own photographs which I thought weren't "corporate" enough. Having looked at both I might change them back.

With regards the grammar issues, it is meant to be "arboriculture and landscape management" because arboriculture and landscape management are two distinct streams to the business. Also, the apostrophe in "years'" is correct because the years are plural and they refer to me, (i.e. I'm the subject).

Well, if I get snowed under on the surveying side, I'll know who to ring.

I think it will attract good business personaly, it has all the "wow factor" thast certain types of clients will be attracted to, I know whos been giving this guy some guidance!

good site if you ask me, and will no doubt be developed and fine tuned over the years as work and experience developes.

The new photos look infinitely better imo.

I still think it ought to be arboricultural and landscape planning. If you removed the "and landscape" it would just be "arboricultre planning vs arboricultural planning".

Either way it looks good bud - are you going to include a page about the staff?

It really depends if he means, arb planning & landscape planning

or arb and landscape planning, if you see what I mean.

Assume you did the site yourself mate, as it a DIY one, not a bad job:thumbup1:
