Wood turning (lathe)

My advice would to go on a one day course near you,,they will teach you the basics,,what tools you really need,,,,,not all the fancy ones they`d like you to have,,,,,,then you can get some direction on what you actually want to achieve,,,,bowls are very hard to master, but basic ones arnt,,,in between centres is easiest for a beginner,,,,

Look up your local club,,there a great help,,and will give you endless free advice,,,and usually have get togethers,,,,,,,

you can turn green wood,,especially to practice on,,and its very forgiving,in time you will learn lots,,,,,grab yourself a book like carlos said,,,,try e-bay,,theres loads on there,,,

Thank you all

 

very good advice all taken on board.

 

got some nice pices of sycamore in the shed and some ash so good starting wood.

 

As said my dad has the lathe and did start producing some decent pieces so i am not alone

 

keep it coming any tips and things to avoid

 

you never know we might get a turning sub forum on here!!! hint hint
