Photographing fungi - advice please

Brilliant thanks everyone, it's a canon eos, I can't remember the number, but it was the first of the affordable digital slrs, it's up to the job, but it's being operated by someone who hasn't taken the time to learn how to use it...

 

Looking at the pics on this thread, it's the close ups I'd like to master, getting that shallow depth of field, so I'll have a practice at that using the advice you've shared.

 

That book looks a good bet too. I'll let you know how I get on.

if you want to get into close up photography (macro photography) then seriously consider the ef-s macro lens, youll go bananas with that bit of kit on your canon slr!

Here's a couple from today, taken with a Canon powershot - I had trouble with the auto focus. I tried both shots with various exposures, but don't think I found the right combination for the first picture - the trunk is partly in sun and partly in shade shade, but you can't really see what's going on that well - the detail seems poor to me. I think the second one is better, but would welcome any critique / tips.

some fill in flash would have helped the first shot, cropped a bit tighter also.

 

second shot OMG where did you get the morel! could have maybe underexposed by 1/3rd of a stop but its a great image anyway. i am just hyper critical on photos!

I hadn't got around to identifying the brain on a stick, but I had a feeling you'd know what it was! I've just read they're good to eat - I would have bought it home if I'd known. There were one or two others, on a site in Breckland. Thanks again for the tips, I'll give them a go.

What lens are you currently using on your EOS camera?

It's an 18-35mm lens on an eos 300D.

 

The pics above were taken with a canon powershot which I bought 2nd hand and struggle with!
