No, not where the sub floor is good. There are one or two battens that are slightly loose, and there is a bit of movement, but overall its pretty good.

The boards are 18mm thick, secret nailed with 50 mm nails. L cleats would have been better but I didnt want the hassle of hiring a portanailer.

To stop movement in hardwood floors, even if they are kilned as low as 6% as for underfloor heating, you MUST acclimatise the boards in the room where they are to be laid for as long as possible. 6 weeks is ideal. Most houses are damper than a kiln, and drier than the wood would be if air dried.(in the uk it is nigh on impossible to air dry timber to less than about 22% M.C)

Stress grooving the underside of the boards will also help. 18mm is quite a nice thin board too, so there is more chance of the nail holding it, although i have seen 20mm boards cup so badly that they ripped the cleat nail through themselves and ;eft a small layer of wood attached to the sub floor as glue had been used aswell!!

They look well nice. Most commercially available solid oak flooring comes like that and is very stable. The example i used was in a barn conversion and the floor was laid 3 times until it was realised that there was water ingress!!!
