if something "did" happen, how will you get down, with no qualified person to help - also if youve not done any climbing how will you know what knots are correct and technique is correct - sometimes its best to wait and get taught the correct way , so was not to get into bad habits - even the best laid plans can go wrong , just my opinion - I wouldnt climb on your own mate, not even with Mrs Miggins watching

capel manor show is on in april 23/24th. it is a very small friendly show, i have been climbing for 13 years but wanted to learn some new techniques, there is a stand beside a tree that is full of ropes and harnesses and has experts there to give you hands on free advice and tips, then before you know it you are surrounded by arbtalkers helping you aswell, it is a MUST for all i would say, oh and there is a beer tent too lol

I understand the importance of not climbing alone, and may have finally tracked down a recently passed cs38 person to show me the right knots etc and be willing to help me and practice together. I just need to get used to heights gradually before i spend money that i haven't got :001_smile: please feel free to add hints, tips and any words of wisdom you feel may help. Thanks again for the replies and will still be willing to swap labour for a bit of climbing practice. Cheers guys.

If you are up for doing the free labour swap etc why not phone one of your local firms? Say if possible you give me half a days climbing practice ill give you a day and half of free labour if your experienced a few firms would jump at it.
