Hi Gents,

My neighbour has this apple tree and it has rot inside, and a big limb broke this morning and crashed to the ground, my neighbour doesn't really have money to throw at it to save it, and its not my tree but I want to help it, because it makes good cooking apples.

I can cut broken limbs off, but I don't have a clue how to help the rot, can anyone help me?

The tree lives in Luton.

Cut off the ripped limb to minimise the bark peeling off, as that will only make it worse.

Theres not much you can do for rot, perhaps get as much of the soil out as you can.

Looks like a very substantial part of the tree ripped out. Do you have a photo of the rest?

Apple trees are very commonly in bad shape, most I have seen are rotten.

A photo of the full tree would help, I am suspecting that the photo shows most of the tree has broken off this morning?

Most fruit trees will regrow after a lot of heavy pruning - often lots of small branches that take a few years to get under control again, but as above, a few more photos of the overall tree would help
