Hey!

Can you guys help me source the right ventilation for my fuel tank on my chainsaw? Bought a Stihl Ms200/ 020 production year : 1999.

When i did replace my impulse hose/ Fuel line from tank to the Carb, i noticed that the fuel tank ventilation was kind of missing.

I got the red ventilation valve  inside the tank but all that was left of the other end of the was a small piece of white filter kind of. Adding pictures of what it looks like so it easier to understand. Do someone know whats the right ventilation stuff that belongs there? Im finding just a simple hose with a white small filter on the end on the internet. But i dont seem to understand how thats gonna not leak and since the broken filter piece was laying in there i doubt that, a hose should be there? What do you guys think? Thanks for all the helpful answers! Appriciate it :D

Sorry I am not quite sure what you have replaced already?  Have you bought OEM part number 1129 350 5850 "Tank Vent for Stihl 020T, 020" (photo below)? Buy this and everything should become clear.

This part comes as three separate parts, which get combined and fitted together.  Your top photo looks like the middle metal part of 1129 350 585.  Your next photo looks like the innards for the plastic part on the left of the photo for 1129 350 585. Tank Vent for Stihl 020T, 020 - 1129 350 5850

@Muddy42

Thanks for helping me out. I didnt realise that the filter element stuff that i found in the vent hole was maybe the filter element inside the clear Ventilation plastic part. Will try to order this kit and give it a try. Last owner have maybe removed all these parts since nothing of the parts in the picture of you sent me was there. Only the red valve that are inserted from inside of the fuel tank and through the ventilation hole(picture 2 i sent). Will update when i have got the parts and (hopefully) installed them. As of now, Thanks. :D

On the 020, the early ones came with a push in white fibre vent, the rubber mushroom sealing the tank, the fibre one acting as a filter. The assembly you show is the later breather with a one way valve which was replaced on the later MS200T models with a two way fuel pipe and tank breather hose.

Yours must be an early model with the remains of a fibre filter.

@spudulike That was what i thought. Do you know where to get those filters? Not quite sure if the new one will fit at all without modification.. Not quite sure if its worth the risk to modify it.

Does that brass metal vent thing work?  meaning does it allow air in and stop (too much) fuel escaping. It depends how precious you want to be, but its just an air vent, you could try gluing that fibrous thing back in. Clean everything with narrow wire and carb cleaner.

The fibre vent is probably available from L&S. In my experience, the fibre ones can leak, especially if the rubber mushroom is old. The plastic breather on the insert ( the brass bit is a drift to knock in the insert union) do seal the tank well as they have an one way valve. The correct handle will need to be fitted as it has a cavity to allow for the height of the breather. The fibre insert will work with any handle.
