Rowan tree dying?

Question

Posted

Hi, I hope someone can give me some advice of what I can do to maybe save our Rowan tree (species unknown).

The leaves very rapidly went brown and some sort of disease, maybe fireblight? I have no clue?!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Ash

I think it's been subjected to a particularly brutal topping procedure.

Apologies for the flippancy. In seriousness though, it's hard to tell the problem based on those photos. Do you have any more, of the surrounding area maybe? What's the history, anything changed recently in the vicinity? Probably not, but it might be something to do with root damage or drought.

There's a metpost driven in quite close by, may have damaged the root system, I recall a whole area becoming dead and dying the cause in that instance was a metal post driven into the ground as a washing line support, unfortunately it had severed a oil tank pipe resulting in heating oil leaching into the surrounding area.

I recall it was quite an extensive, and expensive cleanup operation.

It could just be heat stress. I've seen Rowans do this and it looks very exposed. Any live buds at the tips? If so it may come back ok, next year if not this to some extent.
