Hello,  I’ve mistakenly severed a large root of my silver birch tree whilst removing an old shrub. The root is ‘bleeding’ a fair bit, I know there’s a high sap flow at this time of year and a limb would heal itself if left but given this is buried in dirt and was not a clean cut I’m worried about infection and wondering if there’s anything I can/ should do in terms of cleaning it up or dressing. Any advice from those in the know would be very gratefully received.

Sincerely,

Wracked With Guilt
