Stihl model 026 PRO 16 inch bar replacement needed:

Hi, I have an Stihl 026 PRO that needs a bar replacement. The OEM bar starts smoking when used a bit, I've tried pinching it as well as filing it. I flipped it and it works without smoking it needs to be replaced. The saw is far away and I do not have a picture of the OEM bar or numbers right now. The bar is 16 inch and I am using Oregon chain (bought 3 when I bought the saw new) think it is .325 pitch and 67 drive links. I believe I wrote this down back when I was at the remote location where the saw is.

 

I found some Holzforma options and also Archer.

Is this a decent option?

The one you have shown is for a Husqvarna . I think the bar mounting holes will be different but they will probably stock one for your Stihl . Try Rob D  at Chainswbars on here .

The first link I sent doesn't look right, I agree. I need a 325-050-67DL type bar or chain bar combo. The sprocket is in good shape. I'm not sure how to best try to contact Rob D at chainsaws though.

 

I've had another thought about how dirty some of the brush and dead shrub oaks are, there's all sand soil there. So now I am wondering if semi-chisel would be a better option for this by far instead of the full chisel which i've been using?

 

Either way I have spotted this Archer combo on ebay and it looks decent because I can hopefully use up all the extra chains I have too.

Well I have tried to use a bar roller to tighten the bar gap and then use a file with guide to file and square up the bar rails. Now i'm thinking maybe to hand file the outer rail edges and remove any super sharp areas along it.

 

What I have done so far doesn't seem to help because for some reason when cutting the bar starts to smoke (likely from oil burning off of it) after a little while. I've seen there is oil splattered off the tip of the bar too so it's oiling. I decided to flip the bar as I normally do every so often and when the other side is upward it doesn't smoke yet.

 

From what I see and experience when using the saw it is cutting straight and not to an angle.

 

The bar is original OEM Stihl and it's mostly paint free now from use. I'm most likely not filing it down correctly because it seems to still have plenty of depth left. Maybe the bar now has a valley in the middle or something on the afflicted side, which is causing this to happen now. I'm just simply not experienced in correcting bar issues.
