Hi, I found this fungus on the decaying ripewood of a large Beech tree a few feet from the base, it looks a lot like Kretzschmaria deusta. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Pretty sure that's not KD - don't know what it is, summat saprophytic on the deadwood present.

Refer to the ARBTALK fungi guide to compare...please don't fell the tree without definitive confirmation, and further investigations (if required.)

Cheers..

The disc with the grey centre is looking like Kd but too early to tell. I found somehting similar on some absolute mush of deadwood on a woodland floor yesterday, I was gobsmacked to see Kd on something so far gone. But it was in teh middle of a stream and I couln't safely confirm.

Ok so it was confirmed by a third party. Thanks for replies.

Interestingly, today, I found in the woods some Beech deadwood with KD, never seen it in the flesh before recently.

I had a close look and took some pictures to share..

Oh and our resident arsonist will be happy to hear that I washed the car seat and burned my hands 😜
