Pfanner Zermatt I've got just now are pretty rigid, ankles well supported in them.

Have a look at the Arbotec scaffell lite boots. If you would like to see how good the ankle support is, and if you are ok with gore and blood photos, have a look at the picture of my leg with the boot still on the foot, “To all stump grinders”

I second this. Quite a high boot compared to the Airstreams I had before. Plenty of support though.
