Hi, could anyone tell me, if you have this qualification NPTC Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations, then you do not need Level 3 Certificate of Competence in Individual Windblown Trees as this is incorperated in the Emergency Treework Operations ticket. Does this ticket also cover you for Assisted Felling.

Thanks

I would email City and Guilds for clarification on this as the Emergency Treework Operations  (CS50) has been removed from the suite of qualifications.

I would think it would cover you for the Individual Windblown (the pre requisite for this is now CMCC) as long as the trees are under 380mm (15”).

Can’t remember if the old (CS50) covered Assisted Fell but all the trees would have been under guidebar on the CS50 assessment, what’s the diameter of the trees you are going to be felling?

This is a link to the qualification in question

The trees are no bigger than 20” 500mm

The trees are no bigger than 20” 500mm

So the Emergency Tree Work Operations assessment required trees 18” up to 30” with an assisted fell no more than 15”.

I can’t think of any reason why this wouldn’t be acceptable to cover you for Individual Windblown.

My only concern, and this is why I recommend you contact NPTC/ City and Guilds, is that the Emergency Tree Work Operations no longer exists and the Individual Windblown certificate is relatively new after being completely rewritten, there may be some areas where the criteria don’t overlap (but I don’t think there is). I would just get them to confirm and clarify this in writing before proceeding.

So I contacted NPTC via there website and sent this email

Hi I passed my Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations (0021-05) in March 2019, and I was lead to believe that this qualification enabled me to deal with Individual Windblown Trees and Assisted felling of trees. Can you please clarify that I am qualified to carry out these operations with this qualification. The reason for this enquiry is because I have been told my qualification no longer exists so there for I can’t carry out these operations.

Your speedy reply to this would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

"Dear Jason,

You will need to contact a centre local to you for further information regarding NPTC qualifications.

Please go to our website nptc.org.uk in the red tab at the top click in to qualifications, then click on the qualification you are interested in.

You can search for centres local to you by using the 'Find a Centre' button on each qualification page. Please enter your postcode for a list of centres along with their contact details as you will need to contact the centre directly for further information regarding the course, such as cost, availability and duration.

Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the Customer Services team on 02476 857300.

Kind Regards"

So as you can see they never answerd my question, then 4 days later I recived this email from them

"Dear Jason,

Thank you for contacting NPTC Customer Support.

The  Individual Windblown Trees and Assisted felling of trees qualification is a newer qualification which does not have a prior equivalent, and as such, completion of the Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations (0021-05) would not cover the content of the Individual Windblown Trees and Assisted felling of trees qualification

Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the Customer Support team on 0247 685 7300.

Kind Regards"

So, what does the Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations (0021-05) actually cover me for??? because I am none the wiser lol
