MY Victoria Plum tree in Oxfordshire England has grown far too high and this year is laden with plums. Firstly, when should I prune it?

Secondly, Every plum has a maggot and I want to stop that happening for next year so could someone please advise me as to what I need to do?

You can buy plum maggot traps from garden centres and the like. They would probably solve the problem if you only have one tree.

They use pheromones to lure the males onto sticky traps, in turn they can't mate so no eggs get laid.

Commercially they are used as an indicator as to when to apply chemicals to control them.
