I had a good one........

Building site needed some Hawthorn out to access an area of the site.

Got a phone call asking to have a look. Took the gear with me as it didn't sound like a big job. When I got there they wanted it done yesterday. No cards, No Induction, No qualifications......Got the missus to fax a quotation got one of them to authorise the work and cracked on.........when I got finished I asked who the Invoice went too......they gave me a fax number. Waited two months and no cheque.

So I phoned them up and was told they cant action a faxed invoice it must be a hard copy. Waited another two months before payment.

This is the good bit......got a phone call about two weeks later from the same bloke saying he had a tree problem could I come and have a look at it......

..........Obviously I told him to shove his tree problem up his 4rse

...........and I warned the other local tree surgeons.

I had a similar situation on a large site in the centre of Norwich.

We turned up to clear some windblow that had fallen into the site in question. I went round to the site office to request access to complete the job. Met a chap that knew everything.

Told me that the law required everyone who works at height needed a first aid certificate.

"What law's that then mate?"

"Its in the health and safety at height law son"

"Do you mean the health and saftey at work act 1974 or the work at height regulations 2005?"

"...errr"

"Neither of which require people working at heigt to ave a first aid certificate. Do you employers know that you don't know what you're talking about?"

"...ummm"

"I'm going to go and cut a tree up now, you carry on running the health and safety of hundreds of people. Bye."

Very gratifying.

Builders in my experience see themselves as socially/mentally superior to tree people. Most of them ain't!!

Very true Tony - I'm glad you took him down a few pegs

:heeeelllllooooo:We avoid commercial work simply because of all the paper work, numerous site visits, little Hitlers and restricted access with other trades people who hold up your work. I let the large companies with bods paid for all the running around to get on with it. Suppose it's all ok if the money is ok but there is so much admin before you know you have the work.:bongsmi:
