Little stove was installed 10 years ago ish and smokes when first lit out of door not top plate if the wind is in the wrong direction and windows are closed. Rayburn doesn't smoke. If chimey has good draw there shouldn't be an issue with a removable top plate

That's not a Vermont.  Looks like a cheap Chinese boat anchor. Doubt any parts available and would not think any installer will want anything to do with it unless it has a CE plate on it.     You can check if the install has been certified by a Hetas installer easily enough.  Go into the buy new certificate section, put your postcode in the box and see what comes up.  Nothing to pay at that point.
