I have just put my "full time subby" on the books and taken a new guy on as an employee also, I am only about 6 weeks into it but to be honest finding it less stressful and a little more structured. One is on a no hours contract as he likes the flexibility as do I and the other (who I plan to train up to do admin/quotes/maintenance etc) is on a 45 hour week contract so if a day falls through for some reason he can shadow me and help out etc with the background stuff. So far so good, it adds more structure to your business and the lads know they are turning in every day regardless. As for time off, I am away in 2 weeks for a few days and have pencilled quite straight forward days in for them. Just make sure you can trust them and you will be onto a winner. Also I was nervous, made me ill for a week taking the second guy on but that's what its all about! What was once scary soon becomes the new normal! Good luck!
