Hamadryads fungus diary

Recommended Posts

With the extreme difference in speed of wood decay by both species, G. australe being the most detrimental one, in my opinion one can not allow oneself to make a mistake in determining which one of both species has been detected. Look what happened with the Anne Frank tree in Amsterdam, were a wrong diagnosis even after the tree had been scaffolded to the extreme lead to the fall of the horse chestnut during a mild storm.

I am the last person you need to convince of the capacity of australe, Ive seen it first hand a good few times now. I agree of course, I should refrain from identifications, but its so much fun trying!:001_cool:

Vuilleminia comedens, Peniophora quercina and Tremella mesenterica

The first two being bark "pioneers", causing the bark to peel off by decaying the cambium layer before the branches fall to the ground and then continue white rotting the wood, and the last one being a parasite of the mycelium of Peniophora.
