Consume it, eat it, drink it, smear it, smoke it.............all not so good without an Id.

Although not a fung story, I remember all non too fondly, an episode with giant hogweed when I was a wet teen,

back when I thought I was actually invincible.

I very stupidly smeared the sap of the GH all over my bare skin mocking a work colleagues warning that I shouldn't really do that.

"it's alright mate, I'm part German, look it don't even hurt" :blushing::thumbdown:

A week & a half of bed ridden blister suffering pain later, I had learnt a very pertinent lesson.

Dont play with things that you know not what they are.

Caution around toxicity is a sound self preservation ploy.

Not at all aimed at you Tony, but someone who maybe less aware of these things, might be inspired by our passion & finds, to go and open themselves up to natures darker side.

I agree david, was kind of my reasoning in the post, as proof of just how easy it is, even with just touching what is a very common, even roadside fungi.

You have all been warned, its sooooo easy and just this week two guys (supposed experts) are awaiting kidney transplants after mis identifying a fungi they thought was boletus edulis!

I ate my first not 2 weeks ago!

This weekend we had "Hamadryads Foray" and A big thanks to all who turned out, Sean (richmond sean) little Sean and Andrew T, Janey, Bundle (all the way from Norfolk!) and this odd chap who turned up completely uninvited, a strange fellow indeed but he seemed to know what he was talking about, I think his name was MonkeyD? Anyways, we all had a jolly old day out to say the least, Whippendell was in the very best and most generous of moods. To say the wood was alive just doesnt describe the prolific nature of the fungi in there at the moment. We didnt find all i had hoped for species wise, but more than we could possibly have wished for, including the magpie Inkcap Coprinus picaceus, a rather pretty inkcap, and what a specimen it was.

So heres a few of my images from the day, and some of those i went back in for as I was more concerned with everyone elses day up till then, and I rather enjoyed myself, an easy bunch to please! my reputation is safe!

For all those that didnt make it, we will be doing this again at another venue most likley, and you really should try and come along as you have all missed out a rather special day.:thumbup1:
