does Polyporus tuberaster have the same decay characteristics as squamosus? ie parasitic then saprophytic

Good question, ive only ever seen it being saprobic but reckon it is probably same as Squamosus, they are alike in sooo many ways, dont see why not.

Keizer has S tuberaster listed as purely saprothophic.

He usually states whether a fung is weekly parasitic by including in bracket.

He also states that the stipe is usually lateral but sometimes central on P squamosus.

Interested to hear where you've seen it miss-Id'd Tony ?

So I can compare, as we know what books are like sometimes. :001_smile:

I will elaborate on behalf of our monkey!

when we say that P. Squamosus has a "sometimes centralised stipe" what we are refering to is the stipe alone, however, what it doesnt tell you in those books is the following , photos as examples.

look at my P. tuberaster, the sclaes on top also eminate from a centralised location. now below, these are all squamosus, note the particular examples all having a centralised stipe, but note the cap scale patterns.

I know why you stick to the books when you post in mine David!
