Hamadryads fungus diary

During Sundays stroll in my favourite location i found a rather nice clump of Laetiporus sulpherus, I went back today to catch it fully out but the sudden cooler weather has slowed it down so going to add these as it develops so we can see it grow in 2 day stages!

I am also pretty excited (and i know this is very, VERY sad and anoraky!) about a large P. squamosus bracket that is riddled with lots of tiny fragile grubs with a mucos coating that dries and results in them dieing when removed from the moist fruit body.

If you look closley at the photos youll see the fine bore holes and a small white grub, the flesh of this bracket is now just a mess! This could be yet another new species, dependant on a fruit body, but we shall see when they hatch!

Well, its finaly formed! first two picks from friday, last three from this afternoon. Its still not quiet fully operational but were definatley close now!

I only hope my disguising these with brush continues to help them evade the attentions of young BMX vandels that frequent the place.

I think I am finaly happy about the shots ive taken of these two fruits! 300 or so shots over a two week period and think Ive got at long last the quality of image i seek. laetiporus sulphureus has to be one of if not the most photogenic of fungi:thumbup1:

Youll have to excuse the mug shot, this is for my fathers benifit as I have introduced him to AT just to keep up to date with all im doing and he said I need to scale into my shots!:001_rolleyes:

I hid these brackets with brush but have removed this now, so that others may discover them, they should have had time to sporalate now, the vandals can do no harm!:sneaky2:

I hope I havent bored you all:blushing: with my continued posting of these brackets!

Just a quick Question H. Do you shoot in JPEG, or RAW then tweek.

I vaguely remember you said you had some bog standard camera, but you being a photographer, I'm interested in your opinion on this anyway.

I shoot in JPEG as its just a little compact, but new camera (D5) I will shoot both formats simaltaneously.

I dont like altering images, I like to get them right naturaly, but who knows what trickery i will learn with my new camera and photoshop!

Well today was day 2 of a 4 week job, a site of 16 acres of vet oak and beech that we surveyed and evaluated in the winter months. I found on this site a beech with a limb socket wound, inside of which i saw some old stems from fruit bodies, at the time i was sure my ident was right, but today, well the Hama had a smile from ear to ear, the proverbial chesire cat.

No one could deny this was a good call!:001_rolleyes:

Pholiota aurivella the golden scaley cap, simply on of my favourite fungi, i couldnt have been happier!:thumbup1:
