The problem could be in the loom from the ignition switch. Mine was discovered under the footplate!

I’m certainly going to have to check out every connection as well as the wires themselves too. The switch is suspect as I’ve always had to disconnect the battery after use as it drains it otherwise. Also, I suspect it’s been mis- wired previously as the hour counter continues to count until the battery is disconnected.

So if the key is turned off and removed the hour clock runs?

Yes it does. Never understood why but suspect that the faulty switch isn’t original equipment and is wired incorrectly. I’ve ordered a new switch as the present one turned out to be the problem. By shorting the switch wires across the machine now fires up and I’ve got brownie points from the wife who doesn’t have to look at it stalled in front of the kitchen window🤣

Thanks for everyone’s help! Eventually diagnosed the fault more by luck than judgement as the ignition switch which has always been a bit iffy with the key on a cable tie to stop it falling out.
At least all my wiring connections are now polished and coated to a high standard[emoji1303]
