LOLER couse

I need to put together a Justification to my boss to put me through a LOLER Thorough Examination of Arboricultural Equipment course. I can then be the companies LOLER inspector, instead of getting in an outside bod in every 6 months. We have a minimum of 10 climbing kits to check plus assorted lowering kit.

All i need to know is what an inspector would normally charge per kit, versus the cost of putting me through all the relevant training?

Any help much appreciated.

You can't use an internal inspector for your kit, you have a vested interest in the stuff passing (saving on replacements) so could be seen to go easy on your inspections. The whole idea of LOLER is the inspector is independent.

if he's paying more than £40/kit then get him to give me a ring on 07835 02 9923 or check out the link in the trade directory (loleruk)

last month i took a client back on who had payeed for three of their chaps to go on the course (in case 1or2 failed) all three failed, on re-test only one passed. company has 15kits including rigging, it took the chap 5 days to do, all of a sudden £40/kit doesn't seem so expensive does it?

If you can make judgments without 'fear or favour', i.e. remain impartial, then you could do the inspecting for the company. Its up to your employer to decide whether or not you are impartial I would say. Regarding saving money you are looking at £400 plus exam resits at around £70. With this in mind and the amount of kits you have I would say your boss would make his money back within a year or two.
