Go pro hero8

Any one here can help with a go pro question? I have just brought a hero 8, with the intention of time lapse recording , mainly the landscape side. Twice now I have set it up on the tripod, set it to record every 2 minutes, then at the end of the day I find the battery has died, and all I have is 2 seconds of film! Is it just that the batteries on these things are useless, and I need to plug in an external battery pack ?

Sounds like something is not right. I use older hero 3+ and 5session and both of those can make multiple hours time lapse. If the settings are correct and the battery is full and it still does that , I would run factory settings and flash the memory card. If same then contact GoPro
