Hi Lads and ladies, this is my first post so i hope it works!! just to let you know this is my first year doing firewood, after leaving the forces in october, i was wondering if anyone on here makes a full time living by supplying firewood? If so any tips and advice would be helpfull, also do you get many orders in the summer?

If you do get orders in the summer, keep hold of them as customers because they are obviously pretty smart :001_cool:

yes i do

 

as felix says look after the summer customers

 

it takes time to build up a summer clientel

 

its hard work

 

be prepared to do another job in summer as money is slow

 

save some of your winter money for the summer

 

you wont get rich quick on this and follow every avenue

All very sound advice :thumbup1:. How are you planning to store/season your logs, treesoldier?

well, i split my first load in october and then built a large lean-to out of scaffold boards, and stacking the split logs into this. Would show you a pic but im not sure how to do it? Do you reccomend splitting the cordwood into billets for next year?

oh yeah

 

you need a MASSIVE storage area for the amount of seasoned wood needed to survive off.

 

bear in mind, whatever money you make, you need to re-invest in wood for next year, fuel and running costs. wages and tax.

 

when self employed you need to turnover atleast twice if not three times as much money as you would want to live off.
