Hi I was recently given a twin cylinder air cooled diesel Lombardini engine. The problem is as soon as it starts it goes to full revs and I also am not sure how it is supposed to be stopped, only way so far is to lift the decompression levers back up but I have been told that this could damage the valves. Any help gratefully accepted.

Should be able to shut down by lever on pump. Yes decompression lever can bend valves and al sorts if engine has the hump!

What has engine come off may depend how it is set, I bought 1 that had been on cable winch had been converted to electric fuel shut off which was knackered had to make new leaver to bolt on to thread sticking out off governer box.

Which model is yours.

It appears i might have solved the pronlem i removed a spring loaded rod on the left of the govoner box which freed up the arm on the right of the govoner box.  When the engine is running it will stop if you push the lever down. Just got to figure out how to operate it with the cover on.
