Also, dependent on that facing wall, sun scorch could also affect it, but I think yr lookin at planting stress in this case, Cherry are quite resilient but don't over water it. K

I positioned it to gather the morning light and then it’s shaded/semi sunned in the afternoon. Thanks for the advice and taking the time to reply. Every bit of advice puts me in the right direction.

I put in a frankly poor weeping cherry last year,  looked shit.  Mulched, form pruned new growth, weighted down side branches and its a cracking tree this year. Full of blossom. Doubled in size. Dont write it off. K

Hi ....as it was pot grown, planting time is less of an issue, although traditionally autumn/winter is best! When you planted it, how big a hole did you create? Ideally it should have been twice as wide as the pot and fractionally deeper, with the bottom of the hole broken up with a fork....this helps prevent panning and waterlogging .... particularly important on heavy/clay soil.

From the photos I agree it looks like planting stress and hopefully it'll recover next year.... gentle watering to avoid it's roots drying out, but not enough to drown it!! Best of luck and happy gardening ?

Might be getting a composted mulch on the top surface  which will help hold the moisture and improve soil .also i was told by someone if you took about 2 or 3ft foot off the top the energy would go back into the roots and make it healthier
