I am trying to locate a book on finding out the value of a tree. I have heard the Halliwell system for valuing trees mentioned a few times, but I can't find it in book searches.. Does anyone know the exact title of the book or the ISBN number??

Thanks.

I presume that you understand that the Halliwell system is biased towards the visual amenity of the tree in question?. If I can find my copy I'll PM you the details:icon14:

Strange! I just PM'd you re another question..

I would have thought there was no biased opinions from him on the visual amenity, at the end of the day thats what it is all about.. A tree's worth in relation to amenity value. Thanks for seeing if you can find a copy..

Is there any good reason to put a value on a tree?

Other than timber and chip the value of a tree is entirely subjective and the monetary value is of no use as you can't easily pick up and move a tree that may be 150 years old. Is it purely a paper exercise to appease some office wallah?

What about for compensation if someone crashes in to it/sets fire to it/maliciously damages it etc?

Yep, that's it!:icon14:

Have also heard of a trees value being part of the fine setting process when developers have ignored TPO's on a site. It all adds up when they can be valued in the 10's of £1000's.
