We have been having lots of issues with these recently, they are constantly breaking..

They used to do a 1m ali one that was more robust.. But that now only comes in a 0.5m

Is there anything better for trimming those high hedges...

The Kombi engines are fine..

 

Do other makes fit the stihl Kombi?

I occaisionally use the 131 polesaw for siding up the top of a high hedge, I know the innerds werent designed for the clatter. If they made a heavy duty extra long reach hedge cutter theyd probably want a grand, so people prefer wobbling on steps.

The 87t on a 40" blade is already enough to side up 8 or 9 ft , so the 131 can just clatter along the very top

Yup, they are good for softwood trimming but hit a bit of well seasoned dead wood, you risk shearing the driveshaft. 

You can use the fine cut blades to lessen the risk and the time it saves does have good payback.
