No you wear them whenever you want but you don't admit it on a public forum. Thats the message I'm getting. I've used them lots in the summer, if I use them with a saw now and then thats up to me, I'm not going to shout about it though.

Yeah my post is a contradiction, thats because i often post without thinking, there is in no way that you can condone not using appropiate ppe, hypothetically if you don't wear statutory ppe and you have an accident wether self employed or employed its not just yourself that suffers your employer has a duty to make sure your wearing appropiate ppe, insurance personal employers or public lia, could be invalidated etc.

i had a quick look at the approach, they look like good boots but the sole has quite a gap between the heel and the toe, looks like it might make locking a bit harder if the rope went in there each time. anybody tried them?

Hmmm i've not tried the approach but i have crodas and have used them footlocking in a competition they are very similar i don't think the sole plays a huge part in clamping the rope a good rubber rand helps a little, more important is clamping the rope when you have one foot on top of the other. Been a while though since i've footlocked in anger was never that good barely able to do a sub 30s 50ft I prefer srt for access these days.

Worth mentionign that the meindle airstreams are nearly as good as these fancy boots and chainsaw protective too! Now I have some and intend to not use the scarpas anymore except for comps if I go to any more, semi retired at the moment!

True also liking the look of the new range from Meindl can't wait to try a pair on on at show next year.

i cant compare the meindls and gronells when it come to footlocking-the gronells kick arse. The soft rubber rand really grips the rope whilst the rand on the meindls seems slippy in comparison but if i had to choose one pair it would be the meindls due to chainsaw protection and the gronells will be worn out in 6 months

Now I've not tried climbing in them but Lowa Patrols are an excellent boot for general wear. I've had 2 pairs of these in 8 years for when away with the Army on exercises and they've kept my feet nice and dry and sometimes not taken them off for other 36 hours at a time.

If Lowa did Chainsaw boots, it would knock the industry upside down as they are the comfiest boots I've ever worn and not had one blister or wet foot from them.
