your oak posts look interesting, are they made from thinnings and how long do you expect to get out of them?

Yes, probably average 6 stakes from a log. We tend to get 15 years out of them before we think of restaking/replacing.

That's great, longer lifespan than todays tanalised posts. We have just been thinning some oak plantation and had been planning on logging it. This provides another use for some of it and there's always fencing to be done on the farm.

Oak sap wood will rot quicker then treated soft wood post so will not last anytime, but oak heart wood post will last for a long time.
