Hi fellow arborist!

Has anybody else had wear on their zigzag like this?.

it's happening by the silver zigzag bit hitting the side plates when the tension is released

Same on my relatively new ZZ, seen it on plenty of others too. Happens where first link touches if completely compressed such as threading onto rope or pulling through slack.  Not seen it progress beyond surface marks, usually get more side plate wear below the pulley where the rope feeds in.

I contacted petzl about the area that is being discussed in this post. My ZZ has worn a fair bit more than what yours has but I was informed that it’s fine but to keep a close eye.

I filled off the burrs that I had on mine (instructed my petzl) to reduce rope damage. Also the wear caused the anodising to be removed so water could access the alloy and cause corrosion. But as long as it’s dried regular it should be fine. I always take my ZZ off after even a slight damp day and hang it up to.

Hope this help
