Navara safety fears

One of my friends owns a 2006 Nissan Navara Crew Cab Pick-up. He was raging when he found out today that they are very unsafe, Euro NCAP wants all the vehicles recalled after it scored very low in safety tests. In a 40mph front impact the passenger air bag is triggered late and the car's body crushes your legs.

 

Maybe means people can pick up a bargain work 4X4 in a few months as they'll be trying to sell them cheap.

Sorry no cheap trucks on the way, my Nissan agent said its an easy fixed problem,I have a Navara based car ''Pathfinder'' and this car isn't being recalled, thanks for the heads up though....:151:

its just the passenger airbag thats the issue isnt it?

 

No, EuroNCAP has big concerns with the leg area as well as other problems besides the airbag. They must have weak chassis for their size and weight.

 

This is copy/pasted from the Navara test at EuroNCAP.

 

Front impact

The Navara's passenger compartment became unstable in the impact and would have been unable to withstand greater loading. The chassis rail collapsed on the impacted side, allowing a significant level of intrusion into the driver's footwell. As a result, the dummy readings indicated a high risk of injury to the left tibia. In addition, the accelerator pedal moved rearwards more than 200mm, presenting a further risk of injury to the driver's lower legs. Structures in the dashboard presented a hazard to the knees and femurs of both the driver and the passenger.

 

Protection of the driver's chest was rated as weak owing to the extent to which the chest was compressed, combined with the threat posed by the unstable passenger compartment. The passenger's neck was bent rearwards in the impact, presenting a high risk of life-threatening injury. The airbags and seatbelt pretensioners were triggered late in the impact and readings from the driver dummy's head also indicated a high risk of life threatening injury.

 

The Navara has been awarded a one star rating as its performance in frontal impact did not reach the minimum level required for a higher rating. Moreover, the unacceptably high risk of life threatening injury to the driver's head and the passenger's neck have led to that star being struck through.

I can't see Nissan not checking the safety of their vehicles before they go into mass production.

 

Most probably its a case of sore loosers ie Mitsubishi, Toyota, backing such findings..

 

The NCAP tests have shown that the Navara has poor structural integrity especially the chassis.

 

It does not look good for tradesmen who have bought this 4 x 4 expecting a strong vehicle capable of going off-road and pulling trailers every day. A weak chassis can cause all kinds of problems with the drive shaft, steering, vibration.

 

Its a dead duck.
