Forestry in Dumfries and Galloway

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I posted a similar question on the employment section, regarding pay rates in SW scotland as my partner and I are moving there in March.

I'm already involved in Arb but after speaking to people in the know, it seems I may have more luck finding employment in the forestry sector. So my questions for this forum are...

1. As a newbie to forestry, what tickets will I need other than cs30/31/38/39?

2. What can a trainee forestry worker expect to earn? (I'm prepared to work my nuts off)

3. Is there an abundance of opportunity for work or is it quite hard to get involved in forestry?

4. Do you have Any other random info that you think may help me out?

Cheers.

I lived up there abt 30 yrs ago ( Long Town - you cant miss it - its very Long ;) )and started with the FC up there ,  I would think there is a lot of machine harvesting on the Borders . I would have a good backup plan as we were out of work often when  the timber price slipped . K

If u want to cut (fell and brash) in front of a machine.

U'll need ur med trees and wind blow tickets (that was the old tickets in case things have changed with new titles/tickets), EFAW+F ticket and possibly a biggish saw that can run a 18" bar all day long 5 days a week, and sometimes u'll need a bigger saw still depending on job/timber
