Little oddity form earlier today.

P. aurivella here on London Plane.

Having had a brief scan throught the 497 FDRBI records, there appears to be no or very few accounts of it on Plane.

Shots 2,4 &4 (esp3 & 4 ) are strangely evocative images...(anthropomorphic). Nice!

Dont want to stir up the ol'debate unnecessarily...but the Pholiota have been discerned to separate species only by microscopic identification...thats not to say they cannot be recognised in field identification...but I was reminded of this in the OP question!

Host (although not here:001_rolleyes: ) & MO, in terms of location on host (based upon online/book & verbal resource) I think leads to no other Pholiota in my experience Tim.

Good debating point.

But.........as I'm more and more acutely aware, things aint what they always appear to be

ain't she purdy though :001_smile:

It was something I read on a web page dedicated to Pholiota but stateside. I commented that they appear higher from the ground and more often than not and Tony (Hama) pretty much confirmed what you are now reiterating. It is an identifying feature and nothing wrong with that... I might be stretching the context a bit tbh. I think they can be perhaps easily recognised from each other by other features, especially if you are atuned to these things...the point being made was a rather dry academic one. Not sure its terribly helpful eh! Yeah...great pics mate!
