Ash tree removal

Question

Hi all

I live in Orpington, South East London and I need some advice on the removal of an ash tree which has outgrown its plot next to my workshop. I hope the attached pictures give an idea of the size and position OK. I am looking for someone to remove it but I would like to, if possible, have the main trunks cut into roughly 6' boards or at least quartered and some of the main branches cut into roughly 6' lengths or maybe longer. I would like to use the boards and branches in a future project (not known yet). Obviously cost could be an issue regarding the milling and if it is too prohibitive then I would forget the idea so then the quote would be to include removal of all material. Also when employing someone to carry out the work, what documents, insurance etc, should I look for?

So if anyone is interested, or know of someone local can come to look and quote, I would be very grateful.

@Steve, I don't think it could be a wire as I've known the tree since it was a sapling and to my knowledge nothing has been tied around it. I wished I had it cut down 30 years ago now! Anyway, reading the comments I think I'll forget the idea of keeping the wood.

Thanks Rich & TheHungry for the contacts, I'll give them a call.

Could someone please advise me on the insurances and documents I should see before work starts?

Access can be obtained from the homeowners behind as there is a driveway that goes to a garage. Permission shouldn't be a problem as I'm sure they would like to see it gone as it blocks their light in the summer.

Have you asked them? Maybe they like the shade in summer.
