I'm clearing a garden for my father in law and have cut down a small laburnum. The base has gone soft in the middle but it's sound further up where it's only 3" diameter. What's the best thing to do with it.

And what's the smallest diameter people would bother keeping

it depends on the turner mick...

 

i know of turners that make the small branches into mushrooms and other things that can quite happily use those little bits 2-3" wide but personally i won't keep anything under 4".

 

if anyone is interested i have plenty of laburnum to for turning.
