was thinking of getting a petzl mini traxion to use as a progress capture on a tag/pull line when rigging small pieces of timber. anyone got any other uses for this wether it be climbing or rigging?

ive seen and played with it in a srt set up but havent managed to perfect it. its used instead of a ascender (petzl ascention) works well but needs a softer rope than a dyneema one. pretty good though. can u explain ur use better maybe its staring me in the face but i dont get it.

cheers.

Yeah, I got confused by "progress capture"! Is that like controlling the swing as peices get lowered??

yep thats the one. literally to stop sections swinging back towards the climber or to pull over an obsticle without the rope slipping back. just looking for something more straight forward than using a knot.

Dean that sounds a bit complicated for you!?

I see what you mean though, like a one way pulley rig system thing.

I guess that is what it is designed to do so it should be ok. The gri gri can be used like that too, and there are rigging pulleys with built in cams for the same purpose.

I personally have never had a problem with sections swinging back towards me, I slow them down when they go away from me if necessary and that means they have no energy left to come back again. Plus we use the grcs a lot to take in rope as thigns start to go or to lower quickly to avoid swings.

Not actully used a traxion for owt!

Spending money on things that look pretty, but are not particularly useful!! Story of my life mate!

Back to topic- maybe you could sell it to Mr Broadsword? Happy days all round!

okay guys. just got a mini traxion and is a very useful bit of kit for hauling heavy kit up the tree or as a no return pully for climbing. not good for pulling timber away from climber or as a pull line on a tree cos it cant be released under load as its effectivly a pully witha built in ascender. luvely bit o bling tho.
