Pretty sure they were used everywhere, I'm sure someone posted pics of some in courtyard of a country house stable block a while back and they were just surfaced straight over in a lot of parts of London.

a bit of a digression but I think a good proportion of the m1 was laid over sawn planks of imported hardwoods.
