Yep they are painfully slow as a slabber attachment. The dedicated slabber unit is a faster cutting machine with a faster chain speed. If you're using the 5 (hyper) skip chain then they're even slower. I use normal full complement chain with angles ground to 20° , and every third cutter ground off to give a crude skip chain. The finish isn't as smooth as 10°angle but I'd rather crack on with the job and let the customer plane down afterwards.

The lucas frame gives tremendous accuracy and no 2 stroke fumes or significant hand arm vibration issues. I hate the slabber attachment and try to use it as little as possible, preferring to use the circular blade for high speed production, then recommending biscuit jointing to get wide stable slabs. It definitely has a place though as a productive machine, especially for large diameter logs.
