warping and splitting oak

Will this really be the case, when it has been dead for years?

 

 

Oak will never be completely dry in the centre no matter how long it's been dead for. I've milled dead standing trees in the middle of summer and they are still wet inside. I've found the wood to be a bit more stable when seasoning further though.

I milled some dead standing oak in spring, it had been dead around 8 year. the moisture content was up around 50% when I checked the boards a couple of weeks later! they got down to 20% pretty quik and I brought a peace in to the living room now to see how far down I can get it but they have nearly all warped and/or cracked pretty badly.

Just milled up a bit of oak from a tree that fell about ten years ago, the soft wood had literally turned to soil but he heart wood was like concrete and will take at least a year to dry out. That's Oak:confused1:

You can't speed up the drying time of Oak and get perfect boards at the end.
