help needed spliceing

its new england hi vee.

im useing a jimmy green marine universal fid.

all trouble im having is burying the tapered end cause everything i try it slips right off the fid.

 

i prefere the wire

which is basically wire with loops on either end that threads through

splicing climbing ropes really need a bit more kit tbh

Yeah Nod has the piano wire fids or you can make your own from piano wire you can get from any decent model shop.The wire is just bent in half with loops formed on the ends to provide a point to anchor from when you perform the bury, the other end forms a nice narrow loop that you can hook the cover taper on to, so rather than pushing the cover taper through you pull it through instead. New England Hi Vee is nice for first time splicing, just remember to do the bury in stages, I do it in four stages which makes it so much easier as you are not trying to pull the rope through the whole length of the splice in one go.
