First year I've had a flower bud on my front of house bushes.

Water buds that protect the tree through winter .

 

George Gorman , the reason you have flowers for first time is by the looks of the leaves you have been Hacking at the hedge to early hence previous years no flowers has you have cut the flowering buds off !....them few have escaped the clutches of your hedgecutter !

The seasons are all messed up, yesterday I saw some ash buds starting to burst into life as if it were spring!

This was my point exactly,thx inthewoods 👍☺

There's a horse chestnut up the road looks like it's budding, and the magnolia in my front garden is really on the go too.
